The Ministry of Electricity announced, on Tuesday, that it will continue maintenance and rehabilitation work on a large number of obstetric units to supply the system with 4,000 megawatts before the next summer season.
"The technical and engineering staff in the Ministry of Electricity are continuing with maintenance work on a large number of obstetric units that require rehabilitation before the next summer season to increase their reliability and ensure their proper functioning," ministry spokesman Ahmed Al-Abadi said in a statement reported by the official Al-Sabah newspaper. Which corresponds to the country's energy needs during the summer.
"The units that are currently carrying out maintenance work have an estimated capacity of between 3500 and 4000 megawatts, which will allow the completion of maintenance work to provide the system with this amount of energy," he stressed.
He added that "the cadres in the Ministry of Electricity are currently working under exceptional circumstances and with self-efforts in conjunction with the limited financial allocations," explaining that "the delay in launching the allocations to the ministry has greatly affected a significant number of important strategic projects that contribute to increasing the reliability of the electrical network."
Al-Abadi continued, "The staff are also working on completing the power transmission lines, Salah al-Din / West Baghdad No. 2, with a capacity of 400 kV. After inquiring about the readiness of Salah al-Din / West Baghdad No. 1 line, and in the process of completing the Baiji, South Samarra, and Samarra diesel lines to drain The loads of Salah al-Din thermal station and the utilization of the energy produced from it for Salah al-Din Governorate, Samarra and West Baghdad.
The ministry spokesman added, "The executing company of the Salah al-Din Thermal Power Station project has confirmed the commitment to the scheduled timings for the completion of the station, especially the first obstetric unit to supply the system with 630 megawatts before the next summer season, especially since the station operates with a design capacity of 1260 megawatts and is one of the promising stations that will enter Work before the summer season.
