The Parliamentary Human Rights Committee revealed, on Wednesday, the most prominent contents of the Freedom of Expression of Opinion Law.
The head of the committee, MP Arshad al-Salihi, said, according to the official newspaper, that "the Human Rights Committee has completed all the amendments to the draft law on freedom of expression of opinion," noting that "there are several proposals that were submitted by the special committees in the House of Representatives and were adopted."
Salhi added, "The First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Hassan Al Kaabi, indicated that there is no objection to holding a workshop with a number of civil society organizations and trade unions to hear their views again."
He explained, "The most important points included in the law is the request for permission to demonstrate from the administrative unit or the news," noting that "the committee’s opinion was with informing the head of the administrative unit to go out to a demonstration or sit-in. The government’s proposal is to request permission from it."
He pointed out that “the committee will hold the workshop with civil society organizations as soon as possible,” suggesting that “the law will be voted on in the House of Representatives during the next two weeks.” Ended 6/29 N
