A presidential statement revealed, on Thursday, the details of President Barham Salih's meeting with Cardinal Mar Louis Sacco.
The statement, of which Mawazine News received a copy, stated, "The President of the Republic, Barham Salih, received today, at the Peace Palace in Baghdad, His Beatitude Cardinal Mar Louis Raphael I Sako."
He added, "At the beginning of the meeting, Cardinal Louis Sacco expressed his deep thanks and appreciation to the President of the Republic for his efforts in making the visit of His Holiness Pope Francis to Iraq a success, as well as the broad government effort that contributed to this, pointing out the importance of the visit to all Iraqis who have shown a warm welcome to His Holiness from Muslims, Christians and the rest of the sects. "
According to the statement, the President of the Republic praised "the efforts of the Iraqi Church and its role in preparing for the visit," noting that "Pope Francis' visit represented a deep humanitarian message of solidarity for a country that has suffered from violence and conflicts and looks forward to moving forward towards establishing its security, stability and peace, preserving its peaceful coexistence and protecting its sects." And its various components. "
Saleh stressed, "The necessity of meeting and dialogue among all, discussing outstanding issues in the country and rejecting differences, based on the supreme interest of citizens, in a manner that ensures meeting their necessary needs, and enhancing security and stability."
