Iraq offers mediation efforts to the UAE and opens the investment file
Baghdad / Muhammad Sabah
Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi arrived on Sunday at the head of a large ministerial delegation to the UAE. The visit comes as part of the Gulf tour that he started from Saudi Arabia last week. It aims to put forward the Iraqi initiative that seeks to bridge the gap between the Gulf states and Iran, in preparation for the upcoming quartet summit.
The visit witnessed a call for Emirati companies to invest in Iraq in the fields of electricity, transportation, energy, housing, technology transfer and infrastructure.
The Gulf tour is scheduled to include a visit to the State of Qatar and the idea of the summit to be held.
Abu Dhabi Crown Prince, Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, posted a tweet on Twitter after his meeting with Al-Kazemi.
Bin Zayed said: "I welcome my brother Mustafa Al-Kazemi, the brotherly Prime Minister of Iraq, among his family in the Emirates, and I look forward to fruitful discussions with him that will bring prosperity and development to our two brotherly countries and peoples."
He added, "I discussed with Al-Kazemi strengthening our fraternal relations and pushing them forward in various fields, and we exchanged views on Arab, regional and international developments ... The UAE is always alongside everything that achieves stability in Iraq and the interests of its people."
A member of the General Authority for the Wisdom Movement, Rahim Al-Aboudi, comments in a statement to (Al-Mada) on the visit, saying that it “comes within the framework of completing his Gulf tour that he started three days ago from Saudi Arabia, which aims to calm the region and strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries.” He adds that his visit "will focus on discussing the Iraqi mediation adopted by the Iraqi government to bridge the gap between Saudi Arabia and Iran, with the support of the United States of America." It is likely that "this Gulf tour includes a visit to the State of Qatar to inform it of the merits of this initiative or mediation that will be in Baghdad." .
Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi concluded his first visit to Saudi Arabia at the end of last week, during which he met with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, where the two sides signed five joint agreements and memoranda of understanding between the two countries.
He continues that "there is a preliminary agreement between Iraq and the UAE also on the entry of investment and agricultural companies into Iraqi lands, as well as importing some weapons manufactured by the Emirates," adding that "the visit is important for the prime minister."
A member of the General Authority for the Wisdom Movement believes that "this Gulf tour of the prime minister aims to strengthen his position and his chances of obtaining a second term by supporting him from the Gulf in the upcoming parliamentary elections that will take place next October."
(Al-Mada) revealed in its issue of 03/31/2021 that Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi carried as part of his agenda to Riyadh a file of mediation between Saudi Arabia and Iran, to be held in Iraq with the participation of the United States.
The report emphasized that all three parties (Iran, the United States and Saudi Arabia) do not have conditions before holding the meeting, and that it may take place in the coming days.
The leader in the Wisdom Movement notes that "setting a date for the summit between the foreign ministers of Iraq, Saudi Arabia, the United States of America and Iran in Baghdad depends on Al-Kazemi's visit to Qatar and Iran," indicating that "Saudi Arabia has expressed a desire to attend this meeting."
On Sunday, Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi met a group of Emirati companies and businessmen at his residence in the UAE.
A statement issued by Al-Kazemi's office said that the Prime Minister stressed during the meeting that Iraq has gone through difficult and complicated conditions that have delayed development and services, and that Iraq is the cradle of civilizations and the great diversity that represents an element of strength for us, deserving of efforts in order to serve its citizens.
He explained that the Iraqi government has taken bold measures in the financial sector, economy and development, and there is a gradual recovery of the Iraqi economy.
The statement continued that the Prime Minister referred to "the reform paper prepared to reform the private sector and provide all facilities to it," noting that "the doors of Iraq are open to Emirati companies and businessmen." He indicated that several measures have been taken to reduce bureaucracy and overcome obstacles facing companies.
The statement added that Al-Kazemi stressed that the government attaches great importance to clean energy, and has drawn up plans and taken several measures regarding them.
For his part, Hussein Allawi, Adviser to the Prime Minister, said in a statement to (Al-Mada) that “the objectives of the visit of Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi to the UAE is a developmental economic visit aimed at investing foreign policy in the service of the Iraqi economy, as well as in strengthening Iraq's position regionally towards countries Gulf and Arab states, as well as an exchange of views towards the problems surrounding the region.
He added, "This visit has its weight through the delegation led by the Prime Minister, as well as the files on the economy, investment, energy and transportation, activating the cultural factor of the partnership between the Iraqi and Emirati peoples, and also investing the exchange of views towards future investments in Iraq by Emirati companies that are expected. To be concentrated in the energy, electricity, housing and transportation sector.
He continues, "The visit also aims to boost Emirati investments in Iraq and create a partnership with economic files in order to serve the Iraqi people, provide job opportunities for Iraqis, as well as transfer technology, capabilities and international capabilities to Iraq."
The government advisor expected that “the prime minister is conducting a visit to another Gulf state,” without specifying the name of this country, noting that Al-Kazemi “seeks to introduce the economic program of the Iraqi state, which needs a partnership in the field of infrastructure development, and creating job opportunities for youth, as well as Transfer of technology and acceleration of the reconstruction process for important and productive sectors of the Iraqi economy
