Baghdad - Mawazine News
The Legal Committee revealed, in the House of Representatives, on Wednesday, that there are thousands of laws and decisions of the dissolved Revolution Command Council that are still effective and valid until now.
A member of the Parliamentary Legal Committee, Salim Hamza, said, "Among those laws that were issued during the rule of the previous regime, the Freedom of Opinion and Expression Act, which was not agreed upon in the House of Representatives."
He emphasized that "the laws and legislations of the previous dictatorial regime are inconsistent with the new democratic reality," noting that "the parties that have taken possession of all the joints of the state, and for the purpose of their remaining in power, are based on the laws and legislation of the previous regime."
He explained, "The dispute is now over the Freedom of Expression Act, which we need to pass or similar laws."
Hamza added, "There are thousands of laws and decisions of the dissolved Revolution Command Council that are still effective and valid until now, and the courts specialized in felonies, misdemeanors and personal status are working on them, and we call for the enactment of alternative laws."
A member of the committee pointed out, "Parliament needs a strong political will to amend these laws or decisions and replace them with decisions and legislation that are consistent with the general democratic reality of the new Iraqi state. Therefore, we need a large parliamentary revolution to change these laws."
He stated, "The House of Representatives has a lot of pressure to dissolve itself, and there is not enough time to replace these laws." Ended 29 / A 43
