The Digital Media Center in Iraq accused Facebook of tolerating political manipulation of public opinion in Iraq by spreading misleading information on social media platforms.
According to a statement by the center today, Tuesday, it monitored the ongoing activities of pages with general names that published false or deceptive information that were later denied by official sources or independent investigation bodies.
He added, "Facebook has not taken any action against these pages or accounts, even if it is warning the publication that it contains misleading information, as it does in some countries."
The Center warned of the danger of Facebook allowing such behavior with the approaching early parliamentary elections in Iraq, and called on the authorities responsible for the integrity of the elections to act in a manner that ensures the protection of the Iraqi voter from false or misleading information that is transmitted and affecting the conduct of the electoral process.
