    China and countries in the Middle East top the list of the most executing countries in the world in 2020, according to a new report published by Amnesty International.
    The report, issued today, Wednesday, indicated that China's confidentiality of the number of death sentences carried out in it prevents an independent examination in this regard, but it is believed that thousands of people are executed annually in this country, which puts it at the top of the list.
    The ranks between the second and the fifth in the list of countries most used for execution are in countries in the Middle East, which are Iran (246 death sentences), Egypt (107 death sentences), Iraq (45 death sentences) and Saudi Arabia (27 death sentences).
    The human rights organization pointed out that these four regional countries carried out 88% of the total number of death sentences in the world last year.
    The report touched on the situation in Egypt, noting that at least 23 people were executed in it based on "judgments issued in cases related to political violence, after grossly unfair trials."
    The report also mentioned that Iran is resorting more and more to the execution as a "tool of political oppression against opponents, protesters and representatives of ethnic minorities," despite the fact that the number of executions in this country in 2020 is less than it was in previous years.
    The report confirmed that the number of executions in both Saudi Arabia and Iraq decreased last year by 85% and 55%, respectively, compared to the previous year, pointing out that a number of countries that carried out the death penalty in 2019, including Bahrain and Sudan, did not carry out executions in the past year at all. .
    In 2020, according to the information available to the organization, at least 483 executions were carried out worldwide in 2020 (this does not include executions in countries that impose full or partial secrecy on this information, namely China, Syria, North Korea and Vietnam), which represents the lowest outcome since the past ten years. at least.
