    The President of the Kurdistan Regional Government, Masrour Barzani, commented, on Wednesday, regarding the cabinet's approval of the draft law of the criminal court specialized in ISIS crimes in the region.

    The media office of the prime minister said in a statement that "people" received a copy (April 28, 2021), that "the Kurdistan Regional Government, the federal government and the international community bear the responsibility to hold ISIS terrorists accountable for their crimes against the people of Kurdistan and the Iraqi people, and humanity in general."  
    Today, Wednesday, the Council of Ministers approved a draft law on the criminal court specializing in ISIS crimes in the Kurdistan region to investigate and prosecute ISIS terrorists for their war crimes, massacres and crimes against humanity.  
    After the Kurdistan Parliament ratifies it, the law will establish a legal framework for trying ISIS elements by establishing a national court in the Kurdistan region and with the help of the United Nations investigation team to enhance accountability for crimes committed by ISIS (UNITAD) in the field of gathering evidence.  
    Without any doubt, the matter will not heal the deep wounds of the victims of ISIS, especially the Yazidi sisters and brothers, and the rest of the victims, but it will be a step towards retribution for the criminals and justice for them.  
    The statement held, "The Kurdistan Regional Government, the federal government and the international community are responsible for holding ISIS terrorists accountable for their crimes against the people of Kurdistan and the Iraqi people and humanity in general, and as we are trying today to accomplish this common mission for the sake of the sacrifices of Iraq and the world, the matter, of course, requires a lot of work, but it is Will be completed at the end. "  
    He stressed that Alqeelin "will continue to cooperate, collect information and exchange it with the (UNITAD) team, and I also call on the United Nations and the international community to support the judicial system in the Kurdistan region, especially in the field of training and to complete preparations for the start of the first session of the public trial. This law urges the international community to help in the field. Collecting funds and aid for the families of the victims through a special fund to dress their wounds. "  
    Barzani called on the Kurdistan Parliament to "include this bill in its agenda for a vote on it as soon as possible."  
    He pointed out that "the Kurdistan region has succeeded in fighting ISIS and defeated it on the ground, and we will continue to fight this battle in all its forms to achieve justice and redress for the victims."  
    Barzani extended his sincere thanks to the special advisor of the UN investigation team (UNITAD) Karim Asad Ahmed Khan and members of his team for their important role in advancing this case through their strenuous efforts, technical assistance and their close cooperation with the judicial institutions in the Kurdistan region.
