Today, Wednesday, the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that it has sent a letter to the UN Security Council requesting its support in the Iraqi legislative elections scheduled for the end of this year.
In a press release, the ministry stated, "Minister Fouad Hussein received a phone call from the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belgium, Sophie Wilms, and they discussed the necessity of strengthening bilateral relations and upgrading them to what meets the aspirations of the two friendly peoples."
The call also discussed, according to the statement, the Iraqi government's decision to hold "free and fair" legislative elections.
The statement quoted the Foreign Minister as saying, "Iraq has sent a message to the Security Council to provide support and send observers to hold the elections on schedule."

The Iraqi government had previously set June 6, 2021, as the date for holding early elections, but it announced the postponement of this date to the tenth of October of the same year.
A few days ago, an Iraqi source revealed to RT, the possibility of postponing the elections scheduled for the tenth of October next 10 days from the specified date.

A few days ago, Iraqi President Barham Salih discussed with the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, the need for effective coordination between the two sides to ensure international monitoring of the upcoming Iraqi elections.
