Today, Friday, a member of the Parliamentary Agriculture and Water Committee, Ali Al-Badiri, warned of an economic catastrophe as a result of the appeal filed by the Minister of Finance on one of the articles in the federal budget with the Federal Court related to the dues of marketers of wheat and barley crops.
Al-Badiri said that “the marketers of the wheat harvest were exposed to a great shock as a result of the failure to pay their dues as a result of the appeal submitted by the Minister of Finance against one of the paragraphs of the federal budget related to increasing the price of marketed wheat and barley by 50 thousand dinars per ton,” indicating that “as a result of this appeal, the The marketers did not hand over their money from the marketed wheat crop awaiting the outcome of the appeal.
Al-Badiri added, “This step represented a disappointment to the farmers, and it will lead to the reluctance of many of them to hand over the rest of the crop to the government and go to merchants to sell what they have, which means harm to the farmer as a result of the merchant’s purchase of this crop for a small amount in addition to the harm that will be caused to the citizen as a result of monopoly.” Traders for the crop means raising its prices in the market to many times, pointing out that "this situation, especially in light of the health and economic challenges, means going to an economic disaster that will burn green and everything and return Iraq to the first squares of dependence on the importer as a result of farmers’ reluctance to farm for the next season. "
Al-Badiri called on the Prime Minister to "intervene personally and put pressure on the Minister of Finance in order to withdraw the appeal against the article related to farmers' dues, and to coordinate with the rest of the concerned authorities to overcome this crisis before things get out of control and what is unfortunate happens."
