{Local: Al Furat News} The prime minister's advisor for elections affairs, Abdul-Hussein Al-Hind, suggested that the United Nations would respond positively to the Iraqi government's call regarding election monitoring, stressing that postponing the elections is an idea, but it does not represent a complete solution to the situation in Iraq.
Al-Hindawi said in a press statement, "It was Iraq that asked the United Nations to send a special international mission to monitor the elections," indicating that "the latter is studying this decision after it sent messages to it from the Minister of Foreign Affairs in this regard."
Al-Hindawi added that this decision will coincide with the annual renewal of the work of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) at the end of this month.
He stressed that "international observation does not solve all problems, but its presence is important to encourage people to vote, enhance confidence in the electoral process, and deter fraud and violations that may occur with the presence of this type of monitoring, which will be very important in all cases."
