{Local: Al Furat News} The Parliamentary Labor and Social Affairs Committee revealed, on Sunday, that there are about one million foreign workers in the country, most of them within the oil companies.
Committee member Fadel Al-Fatlawi said, in a press statement, that "the committee, through its follow-up to the reality of foreign workers in the country, counted the presence of approximately one million of them working in oil companies inside the country, and because of them the unemployment rates in the country increased," they returned this number "very large." Noting that "there are thousands of graduates in the country without a job."
He added that "the committee works in cooperation with the concerned authorities to limit the spread of fictitious offices that enter foreign workers in exchange for visa fees only, and grants them unofficial licenses to work in the country."
Al-Fatlawi stated, "The fake offices may be protected by influential parties," stressing that "the committee's work revolves around following up and uncovering such offices to stop the supply of foreign workers and grant them informal work licenses, as this causes the aggravation of unemployment rates in society."
He noted that "there is a follow-up to the reading of the Labor and Social Security Law, which will direct the attention of unemployed graduates to work in the private sector, as it will grant them their material and professional rights similar to official governmental institutions."
On the same level, the Director General of the Department of Labor and Vocational Training at the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs Raed Jabbar Bahed said, "The ministry, in coordination with the National Security and Intelligence and the Ministry of Interior, has formed inspection committees in Baghdad and the provinces to uncover the locations of fictitious employment companies." "In terms of their number because they work in secret, and their detection and closure require redoubled efforts from several sides.
And he added, "The Ministry revealed a number of fictitious offices and referred their workers to the judiciary," noting that "the fictitious companies grant the foreign worker only visas and fake work licenses, and therefore the worker coming through them is exposed to legal accountability."
Bahedh disclosed that "the ministry registered 40 official offices to employ workers since the start of opening such offices in the country, which give workers official licenses in exchange for an annual subscription of 250,000 dinars each," stressing that "the license is renewed annually."
