According to sources in Parliament, the session scheduled for this afternoon, Thursday, was postponed until further notice due to the lack of a quorum. It is the second session that failed to convene after the first that was scheduled for the day before yesterday, Tuesday.

The sources added, in an interview with Al-Araby Al-Jadeed, that "the number of deputies who attended today's session does not exceed 65, with the absence of Parliament Speaker Muhammad Al-Halbousi and his first deputy, Hassan Al-Kaabi, while the parliament held a deliberative session headed by the second deputy speaker, Bashir Haddad." After that, the session was adjourned until further notice, without setting any new date for the session.
The Iraqi parliament is awaiting more laws that need a vote, and some of them need a first and second reading, and then go to legislate them, the most important of which are (the Information Crimes Law, the Oil and Gas Law, the Slums Law and the Domestic Violence Law), and others.
And the representative of the Iraqi Alliance, Asaad Al-Murshidi, said, in a telephone conversation with Al-Araby Al-Jadeed, that “the absence of accountability and complacency due to courtesies by the Presidency of Parliament with deputies of some political blocs, is what leads to Parliament’s failure to hold its sessions over the past period, especially since the number of The representatives present will be between 60 and 90 deputies.
Al-Murshidi indicated that "among the reasons for the parliament's failure to hold its sessions, the parliamentarians from different political blocs are preoccupied with electoral campaigning for them and their parties in their regions, and this matter must be held accountable for by the parliament's presidency. The representative cannot be allowed to leave his legislative and oversight work and go towards Early election propaganda.
He stressed that "the presidency of the Iraqi Council of Representatives is required to implement sanctions against absent deputies, according to the internal system of Parliament, and to leave courtesies and political pressures, especially since there are forces that deliberately sabotage parliament sessions so that some laws are not approved or some officials in the Iraqi state are held accountable."

In addition, the independent deputy, Basem Khashan, said, during an interview with Al-Araby Al-Jadeed, that “the failure of the parliament to hold its sessions is due to many reasons, including the lack of real oversight and accountability by the parliament presidency over the absent deputies, especially since there are deputies who attended sessions that did not Their number exceeds the fingers of two hands, and no measures have been taken against them because of courtesies and political deals.”
Khashan revealed that "the other reason for the failure of the sessions of the Iraqi Council of Representatives is that there are political forces that want to disrupt the oversight role of the Council, to prevent the interrogation of a number of ministers and officials who fail to perform their duties, as well as those who are suspicious. For the purpose of accountability by breaking the quorum to hold the session.
He warned that "the failure of the Iraqi parliament's sessions is an indication of the difficulty of the parliament's vote to dissolve parliament for the purpose of holding early parliamentary elections, especially since these elections cannot take place without dissolving parliament, so how can parliament dissolve itself when it is unable to hold a regular session?"
