The Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs issued a decision regarding the financial allocations for the current year to open up the new inclusion in subsidies, while it called on the House of Representatives to approve the transfer of 500 billion dinars from the Ministry of Finance for the purpose of delivering the entitlements of the covered families.

The head of the Social Protection Authority in the ministry, Huda Sajjad, said in a statement to the official newspaper that "the allocated amounts that were approved within the current year's 2021 budget are not sufficient to open the new coverage."

She added that "there are ongoing discussions and meetings with the Ministry of Finance and the parliamentary work and finance committees to re-allocate social protection agreed upon before approving the budget," revealing that "the House of Representatives deducted more than two trillion dinars from the allocations of the Social Protection Authority when approving the general budget for the current year."

Sajjad stated that "the total number of those covered by the subsidies exceeded one million and 400 thousand, so the House of Representatives was invited to vote on transferring the amount of (500) billion dinars from the allocations of the Ministry of Finance for the purpose of ensuring the delivery of social protection subsidy to these families."

She pointed out that "the authority previously included more than 300,000 new families with subsidies, especially after the effects of the high dollar exchange rate and the outbreak of the Corona pandemic, as it was in urgent need to include them in the social protection umbrella."
