Latif said in a press statement, "We have a tendency to build 8 nuclear reactors to provide electric power in Iraq, and the fact that the number 8 for reactors is the need, not Iraq's intention, in order to save 25% of the energy we need in 2030 we need to build 8 reactors, we are currently heading for this number, but Not all reactors have to be completed during this period."
He added, "The number of reactors may be less or more. There are government decisions and there are sources of funding, private contracts, and others."
Latif added, "The financing of the project will be done as Egypt did. Egypt obtained loans from some countries and from Russia in particular. In fact, we have made very advanced and excellent strides with the Russian side in this field. In the first stage, it includes a loan and is extinguished after 10 to 20 years." after operating the reactor.
He stressed, "We have had previous dealings with Russia, and the former Iraqi reactor was from Russia. Also, the facilities and things provided by the Russian side are excellent through discussions in this regard."
And he indicated that "the company that will implement the project is Rosatom and not others," noting that "there will be a visit to the Rosatom company's site in Russia to see accurate technical details and work mechanisms," explaining that "the visit will take place during the next four months from now." We will go to Russia and arrangements will be made for the project."
It is noteworthy that the Russian company "Rosatom" is an official state body that regulates the work of the Russian nuclear complex. Its headquarters is located in the capital, Moscow.
Rosatom was established on January 29, 1992, to succeed the Ministry of Industry and Nuclear Engineering in the former Soviet Union. It was reorganized according to the Federal Atomic Energy Agency on March 9, 2004, in accordance with a law adopted by the Russian Parliament in November 2007 and signed by Russian President Vladimir Putin, in early December of the same year, according to which the agency was transformed into a state institution.
