The Legal Committee in the House of Representatives confirmed that any increase in the salaries of retirees needs to be enacted in Parliament.
Committee member Bahar Mahmoud said in an interview with the official newspaper that “the budget of the retirement authority for this year does not contain any increase, and that any increase can be added to the budget of next year, and any increase in the salaries of retirees needs to legislate a law in Parliament.”
She added, "Legislating a law like this is not an easy thing, as it needs a deep study with the Ministry of Finance and the Retirement Authority, in addition to the time this law needs due to the large number of retirees and to know whether the budget can bear the increase or not."
And she added, "Nevertheless, there is no objection to a law like this, whether by the government or parliament, but it is preferable that it be sent by the government so that parliament does not have to take the government's opinion on it, which leads to prolonging the procedures."
The Public Retirement Authority had announced earlier that it had addressed the higher authorities to convey the voice of retirees and their demands related to increasing their salaries and legislating relevant laws, while indicating that it had not received instructions or controls related to increasing salaries.
