Today, Monday, Foreign Minister Fouad Hussein called on the European Union countries to increase their support for Iraq at the level of economic sectors, especially in the field of governance and good governance and in the field of financial reforms.
The ministry said in a statement received by the "National News Center", "The Council of Foreign Affairs of the European Union hosted Foreign Minister Fouad Hussein to discuss files of partnership and cooperation between Iraq and the European Union countries and the political situation in Iraq and the region.
The statement added that at the beginning of the speech he delivered during his meeting with his counterparts in the European Union, the Minister thanked “the European Union for its interest and serious contributions to support political stability in Iraq and the holding of free and fair elections, to achieve good governance and sustainable economic and social development,” praising “the great efforts that made by the member states of the European Union to provide all kinds of support to the international coalition to fight ISIS.”
The minister stressed, according to the statement, Iraq's aspiration to "the need for continued European support for Iraq to eliminate the remnants of terrorism and achieve stability and reconstruction in all parts of Iraq."
The minister presented "a summary of the latest developments in the political situation in Iraq, efforts to hold early parliamentary elections that are scheduled to take place next October, Iraq's position on regional tensions, and the movement that Iraqi diplomacy is taking to ease existing crises."
He stressed "the utmost importance that Iraq attaches to partnership and cooperation with the countries of the European Union and the steps taken to implement the partnership and cooperation agreement between the two sides," praising "the progress made in implementing the agreement, including the completion of holding meetings of sub-committees such as the Human Rights and Democracy Committee, the Trade and Investment Committee, and the Energy and Transport Committee." Iraq to hold a meeting of the Cooperation Committee at the level of agents in preparation for the convening of the Partnership Council at the ministerial level.

He called on the European Union countries "to increase their support for Iraq at the level of economic sectors, especially in the field of governance and good governance and in the field of financial reforms."
In their interventions, the foreign ministers of the European Union member states affirmed their "unlimited support for Iraq at all levels, including support for Iraq's efforts to hold early parliamentary elections next October and to send a European election observation mission at the request of the Iraqi government."

They praised the steps taken by the two sides and supporting Iraq in its quest to resolve the outstanding issues, including removing its name from the list of high-risk countries in the field of money laundering and combating the financing of terrorism.
