The head of the committee, Muhammad Rida Al Haidar, told the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "Every targeting of military bases and airports belonging to the Iraqi armed forces is a mistake and is rejected by the Security and Defense Committee," noting that "Balad base is strategic and includes aircraft for the Iraqi Air Force, including the numbered F16 aircraft." He stressed that "some are trying to target foreign consultants and technicians in the bases, and this is considered a mistake," explaining that "Iraq needs the presence of these technicians to maintain aircraft in those bases."
