Informed sources in the Russian Atomic Energy Agency "Rosatom" confirmed that the Russian side's project to build atomic power reactors in Iraq is still under discussion, pointing to the formation of a regulatory body for nuclear cooperation with Iraq.
The sources said in press statements that discussions are taking place within the framework of the dialogue with Iraqi partners on nuclear issues, for possible cooperation, whether in the field of energy or in non-energy applications of nuclear technologies for peaceful purposes, and added that work is underway to form a regulatory body for such cooperation.
For its part, the Iraqi authorities announced that they intend to build eight atomic power reactors worth about forty billion dollars in the coming years to address the electricity shortage in the country and respond to the annual increasing demand, especially in the summer.
