The Greek Prime Minister is scheduled to visit Iraq during the next few days.
A statement by the Kurdistan government stated, "Qubad Talabani, Vice President of the Kurdistan Regional Government, received, in Erbil, Stavros Keremis, the Greek Consul General in the Kurdistan Region, while they discussed bilateral relations and ways to strengthen relations between the Kurdistan Region and Greece."
The statement added: "At the beginning of the meeting, Qubad Talabani, Vice President of the Kurdistan Regional Government, congratulated the Greek Consul General in the Kurdistan Region on the occasion of starting his work, calling for maximum efforts to develop relations between Erbil and Athens, especially in the fields of tourism, higher education, heritage and trade."
Then, Qubad Talabani highlighted, to the Greek Consul, the summary of the Kurdistan Regional Government's work program, stressing the need to diversify sources of revenue, praising Greece for paying attention to the tourism sector and becoming a model and experience for the Kurdistan region to follow.
For his part, the Greek Consul General in the Kurdistan Region expressed his country's readiness to "develop further cooperation with the Kurdistan Region, especially in the formation of relations between the cities of the Kurdistan Region and Greek cities.
