The ministry said in a statement that the National Iraqi News Agency / NINA / received a copy of it: "The Minister of Migration and Displacement, Evan Faeq Jabro, met, during her official visit to the United States of America, with officials in the US administration concerned with immigration and displacement."
She added, "The meeting was attended by the Deputy Minister of National Security for International Affairs, the Deputy Minister of National Security for Border and Immigration Policies, the Vice President for International Affairs and Refugees, the Head of the Asylum Unit in America, an official in the Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the official of the refugee transportation unit, in addition to the Iraqi ambassador to Washington And a number of Iraqi government figures, and the meeting discussed a number of issues that concern the categories of Iraqi refugees and displaced persons.
The Minister of Immigration touched on the issue of the forcible return of Iraqi refugees whose asylum applications were rejected in America and did not obtain American citizenship, indicating that “the Iraqi ministry and government in general stand against forcing refugees to return regardless of the circumstances, especially since the Iraqi has suffered and endured a lot in order to obtain asylum. ".
And she stressed "the need to improve the mechanisms for dealing with the file of Iraqis present in those countries and the treatments provided for this purpose in a way that preserves the dignity of Iraqis and enhances their status there."
Meanwhile, US officials confirmed the US administration's interest in the refugee issue, noting that "the Iraqis will enjoy privacy from the US administration in accepting their requests and expediting their consideration," according to the statement.
They explained that "practical and quick steps will be taken regarding the requests of Iraqi refugees who are abroad, in addition to reviewing the decisions of the previous US administration to forcibly return Iraqis, and humanitarian cases related to the situation in Iraq will be considered and the delay in returning now."[/rtl]
