    Today, Tuesday, the United Nations World Food Program announced a plan to expand school feeding in Iraqi schools to include more than 3 million students, while noting that the establishment of a national participatory school feeding fund will help in the long-term funding needed for this .
    A statement of the World Food Program received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), stated that "it was agreed with the Ministry of Education to expand the scope of school feeding to reach about 3.6 million children in schools and throughout the country."
    He added that "the agreement includes providing support and school meals to about 264,000 needy children in 11 districts during the current year," noting that "the efforts to expand the scope of the school feeding program over the next four years in order to provide better opportunities for all children and help them continue and survive." At school".
    For his part, the Director of the General Directorate of Physical Education and School Activity and Deputy Spokesperson for the Minister of Education, Muhammad Al-Aboudi, said, according to the statement, that "the ministry is an old champion of school feeding, and the mainstay for helping children continue the education process."
    Al-Aboudi confirmed, "Last year, student retention rates improved by 99%, and attendance rates increased by 97% in schools where the National School Feeding Program was implemented."
    He explained that "the nutrition plan in the 2021-2022 school year aims to support 450 thousand children, and increase support to 900 thousand in the following year, while support will reach one million and 800 thousand in the third year, reaching 3.6 million children by the 2024-2025 school year. Noting that "it is planned to hand over the joint program to the Iraqi government."
    He added, "A national committee for school meals will be formed, and it will be headed by the ministers of the relevant ministries to help put the future of children at the center of the national agenda, and a new policy for the national school feeding program is being jointly developed."
    He added, "Last week, a consultative workshop was held, with the participation of the Ministry of Planning, Trade and Health, and a strategy was developed to expand the scope of the school feeding program," stressing that "the purchase of all food items will be from local suppliers, bakeries, fruit markets and local small businesses, which supports business owners." and its contribution to creating job opportunities in the areas where the program is being implemented.
    Meanwhile, the representative of the World Food Program in Iraq, Abdul Rahman Megaj, said that "the World Food Program is committed to supporting the Ministry of Education to develop a solid school feeding policy and expand the scope of the school feeding program," noting that "the establishment of a national participatory school feeding fund, will help in long-term funding necessary for the programme, and to ensure the successful delivery of the school feeding program to the Iraqi government.”
    On June 19, 2021, the United Nations World Food Program announced plans to help 849,000 Iraqi citizens during the current year, and while he confirmed that he was planning to launch a healthy food campaign in Iraq, he indicated that it is working, in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, to manage the National School Feeding Program.
