The Iraqi Digital Media Center monitored, on Friday (July 9, 2021), the establishment of "electronic armies linked to political parties" and fake news agencies on "Facebook" for electoral promotion or political misrepresentation, with the approach of the parliamentary elections.

In a statement received by IQ News, the center said, "In recent days, dozens of pages have appeared on the Facebook platform, which claim and present themselves as news agencies specialized in publishing news related to Iraqi events."
He added, "His team monitored the creation and activation of dozens of funded political pages that appear in front of the user while browsing Facebook, which do not include a phone number and do not have a website or digital information on the web that proves the agency's history and media production."
The Digital Media Center explained that these pages "seek to promote, directly or indirectly, a particular party or politician, or they may be used to attack and criticize other parties and political opponents."

He added, "They are fronts for electronic armies that were active before the elections in order to achieve temporary goals related to political promotion or to bring down others, and they will remain after the elections as well until the results are announced and then disappear with whoever runs them."
