Deputy Chairman of the Committee, Representative Hussein Arab, told the official agency, “The law prohibits the employment of children under the age of 15 because it deprives them of education and exploits them in illegal work and outside international standards,” explaining that “Iraq has signed treaties with the International Labor Organization and others that prevent child labor and give them all their rights.” “.
He pointed out that "our parliamentary committee always urges the Ministry of Labor and its inspection committees to implement controls and standards to limit the spread of child labor," stressing that "the committee is against child labor and with their proper rehabilitation in a manner that guarantees their safety and the integrity of their position within the central education plan."
Arab added, "The committee dealt with the issue of financial income for children from orphans and those below the poverty line through welfare and social protection salaries," noting that "during this fiscal year, we were able to sequentially increase welfare and social protection salaries by 25, 50 and 75 thousand, and it is possible that this could be filled part of their own expenses as permitted by law.”
He added, "Children orphans of terrorism have been allocated salaries within the social welfare network or the rights of victims of terrorism, in addition to granting the families of martyrs among the employees pension salaries."
