A member of the Agriculture and Irrigation Committee on Tuesday revealed the water revenues iraq receives from source countries.

"Water revenues from Iran are 12 percent, Turkey 56 percent, and iraq's internal sources are 32 percent," committee member Khalil al-Mawla told Shafaq News.

"Iran has built 12 percent of the water, especially in Diyala province, and this measure is arbitrary because the decline will negatively affect other Iraqi provinces, so there is a rate of increased salinity and pollution," he said.

"The most important real-time treatments will be to push 6 cubic meters/tha from Hamrin Dam to Diyala, and the second step is to withdraw two cubic meters/tha to the Khreisan River," he said, adding that "there is an initiative by the Ministry of Water Resources to reduce the price of drilling wells for farmers by 50% to solve the water crisis."
