{Political: Al Furat News} Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi confirmed that Iraq no longer needs American combat forces to fight ISIS.
Al-Kazemi said during an interview with the Associated Press, before his visit to Washington, to which he went today on an official visit, during which he will meet with President Joe Biden tomorrow, who will be installed at the White House: “Iraq no longer needs American combat forces to fight ISIS,” noting that “the official time frame The redeployment of forces will depend on the outcome of talks with US officials this week."
"Iraq will continue to request training and gathering military intelligence information from the United States," he added, noting that "our security forces are able to defend the country without the support of the international coalition."
Al-Kadhimi continued, "Any timetable for withdrawal will depend on the needs of the Iraqi forces," noting that "our forces demonstrated last year their ability to carry out independent missions against ISIS."
He stressed that "the war against ISIS and the readiness of our forces imposed special schedules that depend on the negotiations that we will conduct in Washington."
Al-Kazemi explained, "What we want from the American presence in Iraq is to support our forces with training, developing their efficiency and capabilities, and security cooperation."
He stressed that "Iraq has a set of American weapons that need maintenance and training, and we will ask the American side to continue supporting our forces and developing our capabilities."
He noted that "some forces are actively seeking to undermine the elections," noting that "Iraq is currently witnessing a sensitive situation and needs to calm the political situation until it reaches the elections."
