{Economic: Al-Furat News} The Iraqi ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Abdul Sattar Al-Janabi, revealed that meetings he described as "important" will be held soon between the two countries.
Al-Janabi said in a press statement: "Transport is one of the most important sectors on which all other activities depend, and it is the artery that links countries and the world at large, stressing that the maritime transport agreement between Saudi Arabia and Iraq is the beginning of cooperation between the two countries."
He added, "In the near future, there are important meetings that will be held in Riyadh to activate all the agreements of the Memorandum of Understanding that were signed in the last period."
Al-Janabi explained that "the parties agreed, in consultation, to open an air route between the two countries and to study the expansion of trade exchange, in addition to several understandings between officials, and the results were fruitful to be translated into reality in the near future."
He said: Iraq has a strategic location linking the two continents of Europe across the Turkish borders, Asia and the Gulf; The fact that the depth and a point of connection to the Arabian Sea and all of these factors save time and effort for the two countries in order to reach the farthest borders, and that the Iraqi airspace provides hours for airlines,” noting that “there will be fruitful cooperation with Saudi Arabia in several sectors in the future.”
Yesterday, in a new inauguration of bilateral relations between Iraq and Saudi Arabia, the two countries' transport ministers signed a joint cooperation agreement in the field of maritime transport between the two countries.
This step comes as a continuation of other previous steps, including the opening of a new Arar border port, the signing of an air transport services agreement and a memorandum of understanding to organize the transportation of passengers and goods on land roads, and to facilitate procedures for containers destined for Umm Qasr Port through King Abdulaziz Port.
The agreement aims to support maritime transport in Iraq and Saudi Arabia, especially since this sector is one of the pillars of economic development in the world today. This encouraged the two countries to develop and develop commercial maritime navigation between them and seek to raise the traffic of commercial ships to transport passengers and goods, support and encourage maritime trade exchange and facilitate the requirements and procedures for accessing the ports of both countries with their ships.
The governments of the two countries had established the Iraqi-Saudi Coordination Council in 2017 with the aim of enhancing communication at the strategic level and advancing bilateral relations to new heights in various fields, including economic, development, security, investment, tourism, cultural and media, as well as strengthening joint cooperation between the two sides in international and regional affairs. The mission, the protection of common interests and the development of the partnership between the private sector in the two countries.
