    A member of the Foreign Relations Committee, Amer Al-Fayez, said on Friday (September 3, 2021), that Iraq's entry into the Chinese Belt and Road Initiative, if the Faw port is completed, will make Iraq an important and effective economic center in international trade. 
    Al-Fayez said, in an interview with  IQ News , that "the implementation of the Belt and Road Initiative for Iraq depends on the completion and completion of the Great Port of Faw, which connects the east with the west," noting that "the signing of the Iraqi-Chinese agreement stipulates that oil for construction is part of the Belt and Road Initiative." ". 
    He added, "The initiative will make Iraq an important economic center in the region and the world, and an active country in international trade. It will also provide thousands of job opportunities, revive infrastructure and increase reconstruction opportunities," noting that "the Iraqi government in 2015 signed with China memoranda to participate in building the economic belt." to the Silk Road. 
    The committee member called, "The Iraqi government to maintain economic diversity with international companies without relying only on Chinese investment, to give Iraq an opportunity to pick and choose major strategic projects."
    And the resigned Prime Minister, Adel Abdul-Mahdi, announced in 2019, joining the "Belt and Road" initiative, a huge Chinese infrastructure project.
