On Sunday, the head of the Border Ports Authority, Major General Omar Al-Waeli, announced the approval of Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi on the authority's proposal to reconsider the amount of tax imposed on importers of goods to Iraq.
Al-Waeli said in a press interview, “One of the reasons for the spread of corruption at all border crossings is the large number of levies imposed on goods imported to Iraq,” noting, “We submitted a proposal to Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi, and it was approved, and it includes a review of the size of the large levies imposed by all state departments and institutions.” .
He added that "the Border Ports Authority is a control body and does not have any levies or fees imposed on importers," explaining that "the authority is in the process of reviewing customs duties."
Al-Waeli continued, "The Ports Authority initiated two proposals that had the effect of increasing revenues, namely reducing the wages for bridge scales, which were previously 10,000 dinars per ton and now it has become 5,000 cut for each wheel, and also allowing the entry of damaged wheels in order to help workers in industrial workshops to achieve revenues. and employment of labour.
