Shafaq News/ Riyadh Al-Masoudi, a representative of the "Sairoon" alliance supported by the leader of the Sadrist movement, Muqtada al-Sadr, denied on Tuesday the recently circulated news about the possibility of the Sadrists withdrawing from the political process in Iraq.
And news spread during the past few years alleging the possibility of the Sadrist movement withdrawing from the entire political process after talking about its diminishing chances of obtaining the parliamentary seats that it seeks in the legislative elections to be held next month, which would enable it to comfortably nominate the next Iraqi prime minister before him.
Al-Masoudi said in a statement to Shafaq News Agency, "The Sadrist bloc continues its political work and is proceeding with its preparations to participate in the upcoming elections, and until this moment, there is no indication of our withdrawal, and the decision remains subject to His Eminence Muqtada al-Sadr."
He added that "what some are promoting about the possibility of our withdrawal are just personal visions that express their personalities, not the approach and program of an important bloc such as the Sadrist movement."
Al-Masoudi also saw that "the Sadrist movement is an important movement that is the important cornerstone in building the political process. Without it, chaos may prevail politically, and it may be possible to return to square one with all its descriptions," as he put it.
The MP for “Sairoon” also indicated that “every political change will inevitably be after the announcement of the election results. There is little interest for any political bloc or party in the continuation of political or partisan intersections now. What matters to us is to get the country out to safety through the results of the ballot boxes.”
Al-Sadr had suddenly announced in the middle of last July his boycott of the upcoming October elections, which sparked a great political storm and a movement from political forces and even the prime minister, in order to “convince” him to retract his decision, efforts that culminated in his announcement on August 27.
