Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi confirmed that billions of dollars were smuggled by the former regime.

Al-Kazemi said during his speech at the Conference for the Recovery of Iraq's Stolen Funds, September 15, 2021: "We welcome the brothers in the Conference for the Recovery of Iraq's Stolen Funds, which suffered through the looting of the country's bounties."

He added that "there are billions of dollars that were smuggled by the former regime," stressing "the need to recover the money."

He continued, "Corruption and terrorism are two sides of the same coin," noting that corruption was present when society was plunged into sectarian fighting.

And Al-Kazemi indicated that, "from the beginning, we set our primary goal in fighting corruption," saying: "We formed a special anti-corruption committee that did its duty with the Integrity Commission, the judicial authorities, justice and financial control."

He stressed that "the committee uncovered, within one year, corruption files that were not disclosed for 17 years."
