It is hoped that the Ministry of Transport will receive the first batch of Airbus planes next October as part of a contract to purchase five modern planes, with a new batch of Boeing's 16 planes early next year.
A spokesman for the General Company for Iraqi Airways, Hussein Jalil, said in statements followed by "Economy News", that "Iraqi Airways owns a fleet of 31 aircraft of different sizes and capacities, most of them are modern aircraft, and new aircraft contracted with Airbus will be added, as A contract was signed with it to purchase five planes, and the first plane will be delivered early next October.
He added that "the airlines had previously concluded an agreement with the American company Boeing in 2008 to purchase 30 aircraft, of which 14 were received, and 16 aircraft will be received next year in the form of batches," noting that "the company achieved an increase in the rates of flights and passengers during the past month of August, It is expected that a broader increase will be achieved during the fourth quarter of this year, in conjunction with the number of distinguished services provided by the national carrier and the re-operation of a number of lines that were suspended."
