    Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) -The head of the Supreme Iraqi Islamic Council, Ammar al-Hakim, and the parliament Speaker, Osama al-Nijaifi, stressed the necessity of respecting the constitution and adhering to the political process.

    A statement by the SIIC received by IraqiNews.com cited “Hakim, while receiving Nijaifi at his office in Baghdad, stressed the necessity of supporting the political process by all sides,” noting that “the constitution is the basis of the new Iraq and cannot be amended only through the constitutional mechanisms set by the constitution itself.”

    “He also stressed the necessity of preparing for the next elections in a good atmosphere to show the real will of the Iraqi voters,” the statement added, pointing out “Hakim assured that the laws that help in supporting the demonstrators must be amended, stressing that the legitimate demands are welcomed.”

    “For his part, Nijaifi appreciated Hakim’s role in settling the crises, expressing his support to Hakim’s calls for working together to achieve the interests of the Iraqi people,” the statement added.

    “Nijaifi rejected the calls for toppling the political process, considering it as the best way to settle the crisis,” the statement concluded.
