Minister of Planning Khaled Battal discussed, on Monday, cooperation mechanisms in the field of strengthening administrative and financial decentralization in Iraq, with the representative of the United Nations Development Program, Zina Ali Ahmed.
A ministry statement received by the "National News Center" stated that "the Minister of Planning, Khaled Battal Al-Najm, met today, Monday, the resident representative of the United Nations Development Program in Iraq, Zina Ali Ahmed, and discussed with her prospects for joint cooperation between the two sides, in accordance with the framework agreement concluded with organizations the United Nations and its agencies.
The statement added, "During the meeting, the priorities of the Iraqi government in the developmental aspect, which were included in the recovery plan from Covid 19 prepared by the Ministry of Planning and recently approved by the Council of Ministers, were discussed."
According to the statement, the minister called, "the United Nations Development Program to support the efforts of the Iraqi government, in strengthening the administrative and financial decentralization system, and work to develop capacities for local governments to be able to apply the principles of decentralization correctly and properly," noting that "the ministry is working to develop structures Administrative supportive of the decentralization system, as well as important trends towards identifying development gaps electronically in coordination with investment authorities in the governorates. And work to raise the efficiency of investment in Iraq, in line with the available economic capabilities.
The statement continued, "For her part, the representative of the United Nations Development Program expressed the program's readiness to continue supporting the efforts of the Ministry of Planning and the Iraqi government, as well as local governments in the governorates, in order to raise their technical and administrative capabilities, as well as continue to implement service projects and cooperate in providing sustainable solutions for the return of the displaced." , according to the priorities set by the Iraqi side,” he explained, explaining that “the meeting was attended by the Director General of the International Cooperation Department in the Ministry of Planning, Saher Abdul-Kazim.”
