A member of the Parliamentary Integrity Committee, Abdul Rahim Al-Shammari, said today, Sunday, that the government committees that were previously formed to follow up and return the smuggled funds from Iraq have not worked so far, stressing that there is a possibility to contract with international companies to recover those funds.
Al-Shammari stated to the "National News Center" website, that "the Iraqi government can contract with large and sober international companies, to track down and recover the smuggled funds, as well as reveal the identity of the countries to which these funds enter and work to operate and benefit from them."
He added that "there are countries that have expressed their serious cooperation to curb the smuggling of funds and recover them, in addition to the presence of countries that refuse to cooperate on the grounds that these funds enter them and work to operate them in industrial and economic sectors with the aim of profiting from them."
A member of the Integrity Committee indicated that “there is no specific number regarding the smuggled money, but the number amounts to billions of dollars,” noting that “if there is seriousness from the House of Representatives and the government to recover these funds, there is no difficulty in this matter because most countries Where the Iraqi money is known and diagnosed.”
