Golden days for stagnant professions...and unemployed youth because of the elections

Some professions are living golden days in Iraq, due to the electoral campaigns that moved some of the stagnant sectors and contributed to employing a number of unemployed people in the country.
Owners of restaurants, blacksmithing workshops, printing presses, renting halls for parties, conferences, social clubs, taxi and bus drivers benefited from the electoral campaigns.
A number of owners of these professions reveal that electoral propaganda hides an unexpected huge expenditure behind it. Ali al-Marsoomy, director of a printing press in Baghdad, says that “the printing profession has rebounded greatly in recent days, to the extent that work in the printing press continues without stopping for 24 hours a day. This prompted us to increase the number of manpower and purchase other printing presses in order to commit to delivering orders on time.”
Al-Marsoumi added that “the prices of materials used in printing also increased significantly, almost doubling in some materials, as a result of the increased demand for them by the owners of the printing presses,” noting that “some printing presses were seized and contracted by certain parties to take charge of the entire election campaigns.” for its candidates, and some campaigns are worth more than a million dollars.”
For his part, Ahmed Al-Alawi, who works as a designer at Al-Shorouk Press in Baghdad, said that "despite the 24-hour continuous work in the printing presses, they were unable to complete the candidates' advertising posters on time, due to the large number of requests by parties and candidates."
Al-Alawi added: "Many presses in Baghdad and other regions have stopped printing daily newspapers and advertisements for shops and companies, and resorted to printing posters (photos) of the candidates, because of the huge money they generate for the owners and employees of these presses."
He pointed out that “the days leading up to the elections are a golden period for the owners of printing houses, so their owners and workers are making great efforts to earn more profits that they have not obtained for more than 4 years,” noting that the elections are the best opportunity to earn money during this period.
In turn, Taha al-Zaidi, who works in the field of blacksmithing, said that "the parliamentary elections contributed greatly to reviving the blacksmith's profession, by making iron frames for posters and installing them on poles and bridges," noting that "most of the blacksmiths stopped other blacksmithing work such as windows, doors, etc. and resorted to to framing light advertisements and advertising for candidates.
Al-Zaidi pointed out that "what distinguishes this election from its predecessors from previous sessions is the greed of the candidates in the electoral race, which seemed clear, through the large number of posters that political parties and candidates printed and published in the streets."
Jassem Al-Akedi, who works in a blacksmith shop north of Baghdad, says that he and many of his colleagues who work in the blacksmithing profession earn so much on these days, before each election, that they hope that the election campaigns will continue for a long time.
Al-Akedi added that “the owner of the workshop has a strong relationship with many political parties, and therefore many electoral campaigns are referred to him,” noting that the workshop in which he works completed more than 3,000 steel frames of various sizes during the past 10 days.
He continued, "The campaigns are continuing and the work is continuing intensively, and the financial returns are large, in addition to other wages related to the installation and installation of tires in the required sites."
Official data show that the unemployment rate has exceeded 20%, while independent reports confirm that it has greatly exceeded government figures, especially in the northern and western cities that are still suffering from the effects of the recent war against ISIS. Nawras al-Mashhadani, a mini-truck driver, reveals that the elections provided him with a good job opportunity, which is to carry and transport candidate posters throughout the election campaign period, as well as follow up and maintain posters that need maintenance or replacement, especially since most of the pictures that are installed at the beginning of the campaign are shredded. Or affected due to bad weather.
