The Minister stated during his speech at the Finance and Banking Services Conference in Iraq, attended by an NRT Arab correspondent (September 22, 2021), that “the collapse of oil prices, the Corona pandemic, and the sharp contraction of economic activity increased the Iraqi crisis,” explaining that “there are a series of measures that The government has taken them, including changing the exchange rates of the dollar.”
He added, "The government helped reform the economy and set a clear path for reform," noting that "the white paper, in its parts, took it upon itself to address issues, and this is much less than what we need to provide services and increase jobs for young people, whose number increases by nearly one million annually."
Allawi continued, "The state depends on a non-diversified rentier economy," noting that "unstable governance standards and high levels of corruption all impede economic reform."
The Minister of Finance indicated, "The launch of the large Al-Faw construction project and a deal with Total that includes water, gas and water injection for Basra and other major initiatives launched by the government," stressing that "there are major strategic investments that are subject to international project management consultations."
He also indicated that "Iraq is witnessing a good recovery in 2021," pointing to "the World Bank Fund's support for the reform program."
The minister explained, "The white paper will have a significant impact on the economic track," noting that "it is not possible to separate Iraq from technological changes, especially at the time of transition to a technological economy."
He also said, "We aspire for government banks to start digitization and support all business owners and digital payment systems," noting that "the ministry should promote the first fund to support economic digitization and it will be implemented in the coming weeks."
He added, "Iraq must develop its economy, or the so-called green economy."
