The President of the Republic, Barham Salih, confirmed today, Sunday, that the upcoming elections are historic and a turning point in Iraq, pointing out that next Sunday is an opportunity to consolidate the Iraqi national will.
"I express my high appreciation to the Electoral Commission and the UNAMI mission in order to complete the preparations," Salih said in a press conference held at the Electoral Commission building, after supervising a simulation of the elections.
He stressed "the need to secure an appropriate electoral environment," noting that "the procedures of the Commission and the security services are exceptional to prevent fraud."
He pointed out that "the polling day will turn into a national wedding and an opportunity to consolidate the Iraqi national will," noting that "the polling day will be the day to start towards reform, and it is an opportunity for Iraqis to chart their future."
Saleh stressed that "the broad popular participation in these elections will be a response to the manipulators and stalkers in this country."
