A parliamentary committee looks forward to an agreement with Germany's Siemens and to resolve the electricity crisis
Baghdad/Bright news
Yesterday, Sunday, the Oil and Energy Committee of the House of Representatives called on the next government to act on the German company Siemens to resolve the electricity crisis, while stressing the need to end the combustion of natural gas, calling for its use in the operation of stations. It also advised to focus on solar energy; It helps in increasing processing hours.
Committee member MP Muhammad Abu al-Hail said, in a statement to Al-Mada, that "the next government is supposed to take a number of moves at the international or internal levels, the aim of which is to improve the electricity file."
Abu al-Hail added, "The Ministry of Electricity's restriction over the past years to contracts with the American side is one of the important reasons for the lack of improvement in the electricity file in Iraq."
He pointed out that "the duty of the next government is to return to the German company Siemens and conclude contracts with it in the field of electricity, because of its experiences that would end this deep-rooted crisis, which was the cause of many demonstrations in all governorates."
Abu al-Hail pointed out that "the American General Electric companies that we are currently contracting with are more political than investment, and they have not fulfilled the duties assigned to them, but rather have caused the deterioration of the electricity sector."
He believes, "The experience with the United States has proven to us that it does not want to improve electric power, or restore services to Iraqis."
Abu al-Hail stated, "The second task before the next government is to exploit Iraqi gas and not waste it by burning. Rather, it should be invested to operate electrical stations, and to end import operations from abroad that cost the budget huge sums."
Abu al-Hail went on to say that “the resolution of the electricity file, whether in terms of exploiting national gas or concluding contracts with solid companies, depends primarily on the presence of a strong government capable of ending the crisis.”
For his part, the other committee member, MP Ghaleb Muhammad, spoke about "a number of problems that accompanied the electricity file over the past years, which should be addressed by the next government."
Muhammad said, in an interview with Al-Mada, that "the current government has concluded a number of agreements related to clean energy, which is a good thing that will help increase processing hours, and we hope that this agreement will be implemented soon."
Muhammad agrees with Abu al-Hail, on the “necessity of giving way to international companies, the most important of which is Siemens, in order to carry out tasks related to maintenance and improvement of the work of the current stations. Otherwise, the crisis will recur and we will face a new public anger.”
The Iraqi government has recently revealed the conclusion of contracts in order to move forward with solar energy networks, and to help end the electricity crisis that the country has been suffering from for years.
