According to the statement, at the beginning of the meeting, Ambassador Eric Chevalier conveyed a written message from French President Emmanuel Macron to President Barham Salih, which included his thanks and appreciation for the warm welcome he received during his recent visit to a number of Iraqi cities, and his appreciation for the efforts made by Iraq to support its security and internal stability and its tireless efforts to establish peace. In the region, and easing its tensions, he also stressed that France will remain an essential partner for Iraq through joint economic and political cooperation.
Through the ambassador, Saleh conveyed his greetings to Macron, stressing "Iraq's aspiration to strengthen and develop bilateral relations and ways to strengthen them towards more joint bilateral cooperation to serve the common interests of the two peoples, and work to establish peace in the region."
He said that "the balanced policy of Iraq is based on supporting its security and stability and restoring Iraq to its pivotal active role in the region, adding that Iraq looks forward to cooperation in issues of combating terrorism, economic and commercial cooperation, and working closely in the field of environmental protection and addressing the significant effects of climate change."
