Global ranking: The cost of living in Baghdad is 281% more expensive than Damascus

Shafaq News / The international "expatistan" website, which is concerned with classifying the countries of the world, revealed on Saturday that the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, is more expensive than the Syrian capital, Damascus, by 281%.
In its rankings, the site compares the cost of living between countries and cities based on the prices of food, housing, clothing, transportation, personal care products, and recreational activities.
According to the latest classification published by the site for the current year 2021, and seen by Shafak News Agency, "what the residents of Baghdad pay for food is 204% higher than what the residents pay in Damascus."
The basic lunch menu (including the drink) in the commercial district in Baghdad per person is 9,250 thousand dinars, equivalent to (7.937) Syrian pounds, while that menu in Damascus is 3.895 pounds per person.
The site added that "the residents of Baghdad pay 397 percent more money for housing than the residents of Damascus," noting that "the residents of Baghdad pay 117% more money for clothes than the residents of Damascus."
He explained that "one summer dress in one of the main street stores (Zara, H&M or similar retailers) in Baghdad is 39,000 dinars (equivalent to 33,850 thousand Syrian pounds), while this dress in Damascus is 18,375 Syrian pounds."
He pointed out that "the residents of Baghdad pay 226% more for transportation than the residents of Damascus," noting that "the residents of Baghdad pay for personal care 342% more than the residents of Damascus, and the residents of Baghdad pay for entertainment 439% more than the residents of Damascus pay." ".
