The Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Antiquities announced, on Tuesday, the publication of the digital documentation project for World Heritage Cities in Iraq on the UNESCO website.
The Director-General of the Department of Archaeological Studies, Research and Training, Qassem Taher Al-Sudani, and the supervisor of the work team, revealed, according to a statement issued by the ministry, that "Mawazine News" received a copy of, "the acceptance and publication of the project to digitize the archives of world heritage sites in Iraq at the UNESCO site, which is the first of its kind in Iraq's archaeological history." .
He pointed out that "the work team formed by the department to study the UNESCO proposal and determine the feasibility of working on it has prepared this project in a scientific manner in line with the ministry's strategy and global international standards set by UNESCO to preserve the archives and documents of these sites and based on the specialized Iraqi capabilities and competencies of the cadres of the Antiquities Authority and heritage.”
Al-Sudani added, "This achievement achieved by the Antiquities and Heritage Authority at the Ministry of Culture for the first time in its history, will achieve a number of important scientific data at all levels, perhaps the most important of which is supporting the mechanisms and means of scientific research in the authority and activating promotion and propaganda in World Heritage sites locally and internationally through the UNESCO platform and attracting groups Foreign and local tourism, support projects and plans for maintenance, restoration, conservation and sustainable development, and activate cultural exchange with other countries.
Al-Sudani stressed, "The project helps initiate the establishment of a virtual visits program for world heritage sites in order to spread cultural awareness of the Iraqi civilizational heritage." Ended 29/A
