Foreign Minister Fouad Hussein affirmed, during his meeting yesterday, Monday, with the US special envoy for Iran affairs, Robert Malley, in Abu Dhabi, that the Iraqi government pursues the principle of de-escalation.
Hussein discussed with the US official, according to a ministry statement, the political and security developments in the region and their repercussions, the reality of US-Iranian relations, and ways to activate the exploratory dialogues that took place previously.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs stressed the importance of enhancing stability and introducing coordination opportunities and mechanisms, especially since Iraq follows the principle of de-escalation and the consequent interests of all parties, and what is reflected on security and peace in the neighborhood of Iraq and the region.
Hussein touched on the electoral process that took place on October 10, 2021, which reflected a popular demand and expressed the interest of the national forces for the success of the electoral process, noting the government efforts that were made to make this experiment a success.
For his part, Robert Malley praised the important role of Iraq in the region and its quest to build and extend bridges between the countries of the region to resolve differences through dialogue and peaceful methods.
