According to the agency, the memorandum appended to the signature of Recep Tayyip Erdogan confirmed that the risks and threats to national security borne by the developments and the ongoing conflict in the areas adjacent to Turkey's southern land borders are constantly escalating.
On the other hand, the continued presence of PKK (PKK) and ISIS elements in Iraq, and separatist attempts based on ethnicity, constitute a direct threat to regional peace and stability and the security of our country.
The memorandum also touched on the Kurdish armed factions in northern Syria, which Turkey launched several military operations against during the past years, and bombarded their positions continuously from time to time.
The presidential memorandum asked Parliament to extend the mandate granted to the President of the Republic to carry out military operations in Syria and Iraq for two more years, starting from October 30, 2021.
