{Local: Al Furat News} The Ministry of Water Resources announced that the actual start of converting the Bada Canal into a tube channel will enter into force within two weeks.
The Minister of Resources, Mahdi Rashid Al-Hamdani, said in a press statement that "the work is in the most important part of it, which is 62 kilometers long, after launching the financial allocations for this part of the work, which will provide water to Basra until 2035."
And he indicated that "the total length of the canal is about 238 km, but the start of work will be in the critical part, which is the last 62 km located in Basra Governorate."
He pointed out that "the completion of the remaining parts of the canal may require a period of work that may not exceed two years."
Al-Hamdani added that "the project includes laying 3 pipes, each of which is two meters in diameter, to reach Basra with 15 cubic meters of water per second, while going to Dhi Qar Governorate with a limit of 6 meters, which means that the canal will provide water quantities of 21 cubic meters per second."
The minister pointed out that "three companies affiliated to his specialized ministry have been contracted and will implement the project."
