An official source in the office of the Supreme Religious Reference Ali al-Sistani in Najaf confirmed that the Supreme Religious Reference is not a party to any meetings or discussions regarding the formation of the next government in Iraq.
The source said in a statement that, “We affirm that the supreme religious authority is not a party to any meetings, discussions, contacts or consultations regarding concluding political alliances and forming the next government,” adding that “there is absolutely no basis for any of the news that is promoted otherwise by some parties.” and in the media and social media.”
The Iraqis are waiting for the commission to announce the final results of the early parliamentary elections that took place in Iraq on October 10, to know who will form the largest bloc and be able to form the next Iraqi government.
The political forces and parties that participated in the elections are preoccupied with continuous meetings and discussions, in their quest to establish alliances and be able to form the largest bloc.
And some parties circulated on social networking sites and the media, that there are interventions by the supreme religious authority in Iraq in meetings, discussions and contacts of political forces regarding the conclusion of alliances and the formation of the new government in the country.
However, the Office of Religious Reference in Najaf confirmed that what is being circulated on the websites is "unfounded."
