Oil prices rose more than 2% today, Friday, after OPEC + producers rejected a US call to pump more oil, sticking to its plan to gradually increase production even as demand approaches pre-Corona pandemic levels.
Brent crude rose $1.73, or 2.2 percent, to $82.27 a barrel by 1520 GMT. US West Texas Intermediate crude rose 2.08 cents, or 2.6 percent, to $80.89.
And OPEC + agreed at a meeting on Thursday to maintain plans to increase oil production by 400,000 barrels per day from December, ignoring US President Joe Biden's call for an increase in supplies to curb rising prices.
Saudi Arabia, the largest producer in the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries, has rejected calls for faster increases by the OPEC+ group due to economic headwinds.
The group was curbing the supply of oil after the Covid-19 pandemic eroded demand.
Oil prices recently touched their highest levels in seven years, but fell this week after an increase in US inventories and indications that higher prices may encourage increased production elsewhere.
Brent crude is heading for a weekly decline of about 2.5 percent in the second week in a row for this decline. US oil is also heading for a decline of more than three percent this week. finished 25
