Former MPs: He headed to form a coalition government with the opposition comprising about 90 deputies

Firas Adnan
The political blocs are heading to form a coalition government that includes the winning parties in the elections from various Shiite, Sunni and Kurdish components, with certain forces from the coordinating framework, while expectations indicate the formation of the first opposition within the House of Representatives that includes about 90 deputies.
Despite the continuation of the demonstrations rejecting the elections near the Green Zone in central Baghdad and a number of provinces, all political parties, including those supporting these demonstrations, agreed to calm down and accept what the judiciary decided when considering appeals.
The winning candidate, Muhammad Nuri al-Abed Rabbo, said that "many political blocs object to the election results, and there are legal frameworks that should be followed through submitting appeals."
Al-Abed Rabbo continued, in an interview with Al-Mada, that "the appeals, after consideration by the Elections Commission, were referred to the judicial body in the Court of Cassation."
He pointed out that "the law allows the judiciary to open boxes against which an objection is registered, and its votes are recalculated."
Al-Abed Rabbo stated, "The political atmosphere is heading towards calm, which is what concerns us all, as we do not want there to be an escalation from both sides of the government and the protesting protesters, or from both sides of the winning and losing blocs in the elections."
And he added, "Everyone is awaiting the resolution of objections and appeals by the relevant judicial authorities, and there should be respect for what will be issued, and then we move towards forming a government and looking into the mechanisms for selecting ministers."
Al-Abed Rabbo noted that “Iraq has been accustomed to forming consensual governments since 2006,” and despite saying that “there is talk in the media about forming a majority government,” he acknowledged that “the political blocs do not believe in them, as they did not rise to the level of true democracy until the time.” Present".
He continues, that "the forces of the coordination framework are still rejecting the results of the elections, even the winning ones," noting that "resorting to the majority option directly will generate major problems for us, as the country is accustomed to a certain mechanism in the formation of six previous governments, and it is not logical to make a complete change in it at once." one".
And he added, “The Sunni and Kurdish blocs have clear positions and announced them previously on more than one occasion that with the formation of a consensus government that would be with the blessing of the Shiite forces, even if that happened from most of them, not necessarily all of them, and this requires understandings between the Sadrists and parties in the coordinating framework, and we are working to moisten the atmosphere between them".
Al-Abed Rabbo went on to say that “the country’s supreme interest may compel us to accept consensus and the same mechanisms for forming previous governments, and to move away from the majority that the constitution talks about, and the goal is to ensure political and social stability, since the general situation does not bear more crises.”
In addition, former MP Majid Shankali stated in a statement to (Al-Mada), that “the direction agreed upon by the blocs, especially in the last meeting attended by the presidencies, is to calm down, to stay away from escalation, and to respect the decisions of the judicial authorities regarding the elections after considering the appeals.”
Shankali added, "The situation in Iraq is unstable, and negotiations between the political blocs should be expedited in order to form a government, and the passage of time is not in everyone's interest."
He noted that "the trend may be towards forming a consensus government, with new mechanisms that carry a kind of majority," expecting that "the next parliament will have an opposition bloc for the first time, the size of which may not be very influential, as it will include about 90 deputies."
Shankali is likely, that "the formation of the government by the Sadrists and the Kurdish and Sunni forces that won the elections with large seats, with some parties to the coordination framework."
He stated, "The formation of the majority according to the natural concept, is the success of one or two parties in obtaining a number of seats that help pass the government, which is not possible in Iraq at the present time."
Shankali went on, "The outcomes of the electoral process will lead to the formation of a coalition government supported by blocs that include all components of the Iraqi people, and in return we will have an opposition that represents all components, so there will be no exclusion of any component."
Next week, the electoral judiciary is expected to resolve the appeals against the results that will be approved, and then negotiations to form a government will actually begin.
