Today, Thursday, the Ministry of Planning identified the reasons for the increase in lands in the capital, Baghdad, and their decrease in the rest of the provinces, while indicating the development of a plan to restore the development balance among all provinces.
The Director-General of the Department of Regional and Local Development, Muhammad Mohsen, said in an interview with the Iraqi News Agency and followed by "Al-Iqtisad News", that "there is a great discrepancy in land prices between Baghdad and the provinces, as land prices in Baghdad increased while they decreased in a number of provinces," suggesting the reasons. To "stop economic activities and hinder them due to the effects of the pandemic on the one hand, and provide job opportunities in the capital on the other."
He added, "The ministry is working to restore the developmental balance between all governorates through projects, as there are government investment projects in the services sector and basic infrastructure such as water, sanitation and roads," noting that "these projects are an attractive environment for promoting private sector activities." , especially that the push is now towards the private residential sector, as many banks and the Central Bank have begun to give loans in order to revive the residential sector, which will contribute to the development of cities and motivate the economic sector.
He continued, "The plans are incentive policies, and the state alone cannot establish projects," noting that "the preparation of lands and the preparation of designs in the governorates for residential cities will allow the private sector to contribute to the implementation of projects."
In a related context, Mohsen confirmed, "Next year is the last for the current five-year national development plan, but the Corona pandemic caused the plan to be disrupted, which required the ministry to launch the Corona response and recovery document, which contributes to the development path upwards and mitigates the effects of the pandemic."
He explained, "The ministry discussed, with all institutions and governorates, the projects and activities within the plan, the mechanism for its implementation, and how to challenge risks," noting that "the ministry seeks to support the governorates and promote development so that there is population and social stability."
