    Yes Iraq: Baghdad

Today, Friday, the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs has identified two ways to enter illegal foreign workers, the first is through wrong procedures by decisions of previous governments, and the other is to obtain an emergency or tourist visa, while confirming the referral of project owners to the judiciary in the event of employing illegal foreign workers.
The Director General of Labor and Vocational Training in the Ministry, Raed Jabbar Bahed, said, “Foreign labor in Iraq includes two parts, one of which is related to legitimate employment, which is in conformity with the Labor Law and the Residence Law and holds an official visa and a work permit from the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs that permits others to work in Iraq and is renewed annually, and it is employment They are under control and we know their whereabouts.”
Bahed added that "the second part is the illegal labor in violation of the law, which bypasses the visa, and which enters either as a result of wrong procedures by previous decisions of previous governments, or by obtaining an emergency or tourist visa."
He added, "The ministry works through inspection teams to visit most projects, and if foreign workers are found without a work permit from us, the project owner is referred to the judiciary in the Labor Court."

Bahed pointed out that "our ministry is partnering with the Ministry of Interior to carry out campaigns to arrest these illegals, but there are obstacles, including the lack of financial allocations to the Ministry of Interior, and there are no places to accommodate these violators."

    About a million workers
While the concerned authorities confirm the absence of accurate statistics on the number of foreign workers in Iraq, official estimates indicate the presence of about one million foreign workers in Iraq, of whom only ten percent are officially registered.
And by adopting the statistics of the Ministry of Labor regarding the number of the unemployed, it is about 4 million unemployed, which means that the number of foreign workers, which may exceed one million, has caused 25% of the unemployment rate in Iraq, where more than a million foreign workers are booking workplaces that were supposed to occupy them. One million Iraqis are unemployed out of 4 million.
Foreign workers represent about 16% of the total employment in Iraq, as there are 7 million workers in Iraq, 6 million of whom are Iraqis and one million foreign workers.
